After dark on some warm summer nights the neighborhood kids would play a game we called “Wolf”. The game was similar to Hide and Seek as we would run around chasing each other. As my brother, Delores Weaver, Lucille Geurink and I were playing one night, Delores ran close enough to that apple tree that the spike caught her in the mouth and damaged or removed one of her teeth! Obviously it was painful for her, but for me it was a time of great remorse! That would have happened in the late 1940’s and I think that was the last time we played that game.
Delores Weaver married and is now Delores Nienhuis. If you know Delores, ask her what she remembers about that night.
